Sustainability, Environmental Protection & Climate Protection
We are climate neutral!
With 2.6 kilogrammes of CO2 equivalents, the Naturhotel Chesa Valisa is a top-ranking BIO HOTEL.
The Naturhotel Chesa Valisa is the first climate neutral hotel in Kleinwalsertal! We are delighted that we are once again at the forefront of environmental and climate protection. After becoming a Bio Hotel in 2007, the next logical step was to become CO2 neutral. We have offset our emissions on a voluntary basis through the UN CER water project in Mali and decommissioned them by means of emissions reduction certificates.
We’re looking forward to the future – and of course we already have plenty more ideas!
Healthy & Sustainable
Living in the Naturhotel
Healthy, sustainable living is another important issue at the Naturhotel Chesa Valisa. An ecological, energy-saving wooden design (by architect Hermann Kaufmann) and the use of natural, high-quality materials such as clay walls create a healthy indoor environment (nominated for the 2002 State Prize for Architecture, Tourism and Leisure).
“Cheese for kilometres” – an environmental campaign by the Naturhotel (2014 Innovation Awards, Vorarlberger Tourismus).
Today, 80 % of Naturhotel guests do without their car during their stay. The basis for this astonishing fact is the innovation of the hotelier family Kessler. Every guest receives a free or discounted parking space when they hand in their car key (parking in the underground car park is normally €8 per day and €4 per day when the car key is handed in, parking on the hotel grounds is normally €3 per day and free of charge when the car key is handed in). As a small thank you and in recognition of their environmentally friendly contribution, guests at our climate-friendly hotel also receive a piece of organic Walser mountain cheese as a farewell gift.
Since 2007:
The first BIO Hotel in Vorarlberg
The first BIO Hotel in Vorarlberg (2007) has now achieved another important certification: it is the first climate neutral hotel in the Kleinwalsertal district (fokus-zukunft.com). This is a further significant step by the Kessler family, who have been taking care of guests for several generations and identify closely with the Naturhotel philosophy: Care, sustainability and a responsible approach to the environment and the climate, drawing on old Walser traditions and providing guests with the very best regional quality.
The Naturhotel Chesa Valisa uses green electricity (from hydro power and its own solar energy system), warm water from an in-house photovoltaic plant and CO2-neutral district heating, generated from wood chippings provided by Wals farmers. So it keeps a close eye on its energy efficiency. CO2 emissions are reduced by the use of electric vehicles (incl. charging stations). Electric bikes are available for guests and staff. The Wals bus and mountain railways (in summer) are free to guests.
